Morag sings in Britten's War Requiem as part of A MODERN HERO on Saturday 7 December

Morag has firmly established herself as one of New Zealand’s leading sopranos and pedagogues. She studied at the University of Auckland and the Royal Academy of Music (London) and was a finalist in the Kathleen Ferrier and Royal Over-Seas League Competitions. In 2013 Morag was awarded a Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Auckland, the first DMA in vocal studies from a New Zealand University. In 2019 she was elected as an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM).

Morag has performed operatic roles including Berta, The Barber of Seville; Lady-in-waiting, Verdi’s Macbeth (2010/2022); First Lady, Magic Flute; New Zealander, Unruly Tourists (NZ Opera); Annina La Traviata (English Touring Opera); La Ciesca Gianni Schicchi (Aspen Festival Opera); and Sandrina, La Finta Giardiniera (Opera Unleashed, Hamilton Festival). Her concert engagements include Helmwige, Die Walküre and Blumenmädchen, Parsifal (NZSO); Fourth Maid, Strauss’ Elektra (APO) ; a recital at the Glenn Gould Studio with the Toronto Children’s Chorus; Mozart Requiem and Mozart’s arrangement of Handel’s Messiah (Voices NZ and Wellington Sinfonia); Tippett’s A Child of our Time (NZ Youth Choir and NZSO National Youth Orchestra); a recital tour with Sweet Chance for Chamber Music NZ; Verdi Requiem (Bach Musica and Hamilton Civic Choir); Beethoven’s Ah! Perfido (APO and Manukau Symphony); Britten’s War Requiem (Christchurch Symphony Orchestra), and Vivaldi’s Gloria at the Royal Albert Hall and in Venice with Sir David Willcocks. In 2018 Morag travelled to Europe with Voices New Zealand and was a soloist with them on the soundtrack for the major motion-picture Mortal Engines. Her debut CD The Distance:Songs of David Hamilton with Rachel Fuller and Luca Manghi was released in 2022 on the Atoll label.

Morag is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Music at the University of Auckland, is a vocal tutor for the New Zealand Youth Choir, the Auckland Chamber Choir, and for many years worked with Choralation from Westlake Girls’ and Boys’ High Schools. She is a sought-after tutor for vocal and choral workshops around the country and has been on the faculty of the New Zealand Singing School.
