Melissa sings in Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D Minor in THE CLASSICAL STYLE on Saturday 6 July.

Melissa Crennan is delighted to have been invited to sing with Orchestra Wellington and to work again with conductor Marc Taddei.

Melissa is a graduate of the Wellington Conservatorium of Music and has a Postgraduate Diploma from Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University Australia. While studying in Queensland she was employed by Opera Queensland as a member of their professional opera chorus.

She has won several prestigious singing scholarships from both New Zealand, Australia, and Italy. She made her New Zealand debut as Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus for the Royal Whanganui Opera House and has appeared as a guest soloist with many professional orchestras.

Highlights include being a finalist in The New Zealand Mobil Song Quest (now the Lexus Song Quest) Australian Covent Garden finalist, Dame Joan Sutherland singing competition semi-finalist, Dame Sister Mary Leo finalist, awarded the Eve Poole Memorial Fellowship enabling her to study at Istituto Europeo in Florence/Italy and was awarded an Italian singing scholarship to perform Orfeo in Claudio Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo.

While living and working in Taiwan and China she was regularly invited to sing for The New Zealand and Australian Commerce and Chamber Industry’s ANZAC Services, social balls, concerts at the British Chamber of Commerce, and Industry’s residence and for the National and Italian Economic, Trade and Cultural Promotion Office.

Since returning home to Invercargill, Melissa has enjoyed performing in several community productions and events including Invercargill Musical Theatre and Invercargill Repertory Society. Highlights include playing Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music from which she was awarded “Best Lead in a Musical” at the Southland Entertainment Awards. She has performed as a soloist for Shakespeare in the Park, The Southern Arts Festival, ILT Christmas Concert’s, NZ Justice of the Peace National Conference, Southland Women’s Club Music Concerts - Combined Inner Wheel Clubs charity events “Wearable Arts” and recitals for The Invercargill Club.

Melissa currently works at Health New Zealand / Te Whatu Ora Southern and is a very proud Southlander.
